How do you deal with your kids when they are having trouble with their teachers?  My girls will sometimes come home and complain about their teachers and having worked in the classroom myself I know that the teachers is 99% of the time right, but there are times when I feel bad for my kids.  So what do you do to help your kids understand why their teachers do what they do or do you always let your kids know they are right?

Thanks!

That's definitely a topic that I think is important.

I hear so many times, how teachers are giving kids a hard time.

My mother in law is having the same issue with her daughter. It is quite obvious that one of her teachers have been discussing her daughter in the teachers lounge, because there are teachers who she has never had a class with giving her a hard time.

So I would definitely like to know this as well.

I was a teacher for 5 years before I had my kids.  They deal with a lot of crap.  I could tell you some CRAZY stories I had to deal with and I think I was a really good teacher!  Just be honest and approach the teacher quickly.  Bring your child too if it's a physical meeting.  As soon as you have a problem approach the teacher.  Don't blame but just try to understand what is happening.  Most of the time, it's a misunderstanding between student and teacher and it can be cleared up easily.

I'm going through issues because my daughter is in Kindergarten and I don't like her teacher.  Everything she dose I think how I would have done it differently.  I'm trying to be positive and give her the benefit of the doubt but it's hard.

Great advice Amanda!  I was a teacher's assistant so I know they deal with a lot of crap.  I really am not trying to be biased because it is my girls.  I know it is a lot of personality differences in our case with my youngest.  Plus the girls went from a Christian school where they got lots of love and it is completely different at a public school. They are use to lower numbers in Christian schools and can provide that one on one.  So I am not too upset, but just curious how to make it better.  Smiley

Marli,
I totally hear you.  My kids are in a church based preschool and my daughter went to public Kindergarten this year.  She couldn't figure out why the teacher wouldn't give her lots of hugs and hold her hand.  That about broke my heart.  I used to hold my students hands while walking in the hall and I taught 4th grade in public school.  What kind of kindergarten teacher won't hold a hand??  But that's just another reason why I don't love my daughter's teacher.  She's only got 3 more weeks!

Personality issues can be hard.  There were kids I just didn't click with.  I keep telling my daughter that elementary school is all about learning how to learn.  You have to learn how to deal with tough kids, teachers you don't get along with, subjects you don't like etc.  When you get to middle school and High school you know how you learn the best and what kinds of teacher you learn the best from.  I always told my parents that when I did conferences - we are teaching your children how to learn successfully.
